\n With regard to the issue of slavery, Burn stay in a middle ground between the North and South. From the Northern perspective, he spends time talking about escaped slavers joining the army and the affects that the Emancipation Proclamation are having on the armies. From a southern perspective, Burn talks about Nathan Bedford Forest and the KKK along with Lee attempting to add slaves to the army. Slavery is one of the main issues the Civil War was being fought for so it was necessary for Burn to discuss both the Northern and Southern perspective equally.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"54145692","dateCreated":"1337045487","smartDate":"May 14, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"nelsoc25","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/nelsoc25","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/civilwar2012.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/54145692"},"dateDigested":1532390107,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Hospitals","description":"
\n Hospitals and Nurses played a pivotal role in the Civil War when it came to the health of soldiers. Burn undoubtedly focuses on the Northern perspective when discussing hospitals and nurses. He discusses Dorthea Dux and Clara Barton; however fails to mention any Southern names of nurses.

He discusses the South primarily because of the amount of mistakes surrounding the battles and the controversy between Generals, mainly Longstreet and Lee. While the strategy and tactics used by the North were flawless, it was mainly due to the Southern leadership that the Confederacy lost. Had Lee listened to Longstreet at Pickett\u2019s charge the battle may have turned out differently, which is where the lost cause perspective begins.

Although they did discuss Lee and some other Confederate generals i felt like this episode focused more around the events of the North. Events like the Assassination of Presisdent Lincoln. I felt as if Ken Burns could have gone more in depth on not oly the political members of both the Union and the Confederacy but the people, how did they feel? Was it a suprise or did they expect the outcome? Although i did enjoy the series i did feel Ken Burns could have gone more in depth on the post war economy and things of that nature.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"54147364","body":"Pat Bassi: Wow, my thoughts are literally Kyle's exactly!!! It would have been cool to see what coping strategies the soldiers had or something along those lines.
